Mental Health @ The Office

Do you hate Mondays?

Do you love Friday afternoons?

Do you live for the payday/weekend?

weekend + pay = :-)

Do you love your job?

Do you like your daily tasks?

Are you happy?

Happiness… Does it even compute?…

While the world is getting a new YouTube millionaire at a rate that seems like one per second, the rest of us are going about our daily jobs. Some of us with dread, some of us with a whistling tune, some of us just holding on for just one more pay cycle…

Is this all there is?

No. Of course not.

Surely you would be happier working for Facebook with their unlimited snacks, for Apple with their cool Hardware, for Google just because…

Are you really waiting for a particular company to give you the nod to finally be happy on the job?

Let’s get real, if you are 100%, positively sure what your dream role/company is, are you doing something right now to help you attain it? If not, then why are you denying yourself of that ‘happiness’. Get up and, just do it!

Make Yourself Happy

If you do not have a dream role in mind or are studying until you can get it.. or you are just a clueless polo shirt in a sea of rock band tees.. Get up and do something, anything.. one thing!

  • Find a workplace buddy.
  • Learn how to play ping-pong/Foosball/Smash Bros and use that game room. If you don’t have one, how about scrabble?
  • Join a group in your company. If the one you like doesn’t exist, approach the company about forming one.
  • Find someone willing to mentor you.
  • Mentor a junior employee.
  • Ask your boss/lead about any upcoming projects you could do some research on.
  • Learn something new online with Coursera, Udemy, Codecademy etc.
  • Exercise during your lunchtime
  • Learn how to sleep sitting up (with your eyes open preferably)

If something on my list seems appealing to you, you can lease it for $9.99 (just kidding of course).

Mental health at work is not just about having a sick room, a licensed psychologist on staff or that guy who always has some good jokes. A lot of it depends on you.

Do something.
