I wasn’t born brave. I believe no one else was born brave either. With encouragement from their peers, ignorance, and stimuli from their environment some people may be more willing to poke a sleeping bear than others.
You can be brave. Regardless of what you thought you were in the past, achieving anything of significance in your life may mean putting a step forward in uncertainty. A better career may await, a better life, a better marriage. Whatever ‘better’ you want is on the cusp – if you step out boldly for it.
In your career, it is very easy to kill any dreams of advancement by simply powdering every sentence with self-doubt.
“I don’t think I would be any good leading people.”
“I don’t think I can make 10 sales per month.”
” I don’t think I am qualified for the position.”
The only thing I have NEVER heard anyone say is, “I don’t think I deserve such a big salary.”
Self-doubt makes people thinking about taking a chance on you think twice. And, if they have to second guess if you are as awesome as they thought you were – they may come to the same conclusion as you. Do not help your doubters by providing them with the gun and ammunition, instead, start to give yourself more credit.
Doubting yourself can cause far more damage to your self-esteem and career than taking a chance ever will. The worst that could happen sometimes is that you will fall back to where you were.
Stop doubting. Start believing. There are many people out there who can do the doubting for you. Give yourself a chance to excel.
